Poughkeepsie, NY — It took 120 minutes to decide the Conference Championship at Tenney Stadium on Saturday night as a late penalty kick for Hartford ultimately ended the 2023 Stockade FC season.
After a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation, the final would come down to 2 30-minute overtime periods in front of 1262 fans in Poughkeepsie (the second highest attendance in Stockade history!).
In the 100th minute, Hartford would be awarded a penalty which was hotly contested by the Stockade bench, and crowd. Evan Southern was taken down yards outside the box by Mario Bunjaj, but the center referee determined the call to be a spot kick for the visitors. Hartford would take the lead after a lengthy delay and referee conversation.
Just minutes later, Hartford would double their lead on a counter attack as Stockade pushed numbers forward.
Joey Dolan would add a Stockade lifeline very late but the final whistle came and Hartford City would be crowned Conference Champions.
Stockade FC ends the 2023 season at 7-2-2 (W-L-D) with 23 points.
