Metuchen, NJ— A lone first half goal on the counter attack sinks Stockade FC on the road to newcomers, New Jersey United, 1-0.
A slow and sloppy first half saw an up and down pace of play. The only goal would come on the break as Stockade was caught with numbers forward and New Jersey would open the scoring 14 minutes in.
From that point on, all of the major chances would come from Stockade, especially in the second half.
Changes and fresh legs forced the tide to turn and the chances to come but Stockade was not able to push the equalizer over the edge.
Stockade outshot New Jersey, 16-1, on the night. The club falls to 0-1-1 (W-L-D) to start the year and travels to Hartford next weekend for a major test with the defending North Atlantic Champions.
Stockade FC’s home opener comes the following weekend as Syracuse FC visits Tenney on May 25.
